Workout RESPONSE vs ADAPTATION

Why do we work out? We want great adaptation, right? Whether it’s strength, flexibility, or just looking good naked, we want positive results.

Understand that during and directly after training, you will have a “response“ to the workout. It may be fatigue. It may be a boost in serotonin. It may be laying in a pool of your own sweat. However, after a few weeks (or months) of training, we are all striving for positive “adaptations”. We don’t want to feel as tired as we did before. We want to feel better. We want to feel and look stronger. We want to recover well.

Why is this important? If you’re not adapting, you may be deteriorating or increasing your risk of injury. If you are perpetually sore, starting your training in pain, or never feel like you’re making any physical gains, something may be off.

Sit down, look over your program (keeping a workout diary is a spectacular idea!), and see what you’ve been doing for the last few workouts. Talk to your trainer or coach. If they can help you, consult a confident and competent physical therapist or strength coach who understands your goals, as well as any pre-existing conditions you may have. Get your solid training roadmap to guide your success.

The main point here is that we are not looking to plateau or regress during our workouts. We are consistently looking for growth and positive adaptation.

Heal. Move. Adapt. Evolve.
